As we know most festivities are canceled and those with some hopes of reopening at a later date have ended up being canceled or postponed indefinitely. Unsurprisingly, the same applies to pumpkin patches this year which makes the tradition even more of a novelty. Whether you’re looking to give your entrance some seasonal decking, or you just want to find the perfect specimen to carve up while you spend your Halloween indoors, then you still have a few options left. Here are the pumpkin patches that are still open this October—all with health and safety protocols in place, of course.

1. Underwood Family Farms

This pastoral pumpkin haven has postponed their annual Fall Harvest Festival (for now) but you can still wander through the acres of Ventura County farmland to find you perfect pumpkin. You’ll also be able to visit the adorable four-legged residents go sunflower picking and visit get your seasonal selfie at the pumpkin house along with other displays. Due to health and safety measures, certain farm entertainment will be limited to weekends and only a certain amount of guests will be allowed in at a time. This means you’ll need to wait outside unless you’ve purchased tickets online in advance (but this option only applies to weekends). Admission is $8 weekdays, $15 on weekends, children under 2 go in free of charge.

2. HauntO’ween L.A. Drive-Thru [SOLD OUT]

While this may not be your conventional pumpkin picking excursion, you are promised and awfully gourd array of perfect orange vegetables to choose from, albeit from the safety of your car with a side of spooky thrills. The HauntO’ween LA drive-through experience is basically would you get if Hollywood took over your neighborhood traditions. It’s a dazzling Halloween spectacle and you get to keep the COVID scares away by staying in your vehicle. Pumpkins are pre-sanitized and placed in your trunk or available for curbside pickup.

3. Tanaka Farm’s Hello Kitty Themed Pumpkin Paradise

Pick your pumpkins straight from the vine with Hello Kitty and her cute companions. To make your way around the 30 acres of land you can either take a $25 tractor ride with a pitstop at a pumpkin canyon followed by a stop-off for a “U-pick” session. Or, you can navigate the farm yourself with the drive-through option on weekends which will cost $20. The patch will be open until October 31 and it’s open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

4. Mr. Jack O’Lanterns Pumpkin Patch

You’ll have two locations to choose from when it comes to this roaming patch of pumpkins: Hollywood or La Jolla. On top of that, you can choose curbside pickup or you can go picking and still enjoy a range of festive activities like boo-sketball and pumpkin bowling. You can make orders online too and that includes options with carving kits. Black Flour Crepes Food Truck will also be onsite if none of the other activities are a huge draw for you. Opening times are Monday to Thursday, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday to Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

5. Shawn’s Pumpkin Patch

Shawn’s boasts one of the largest pumpkin patches in L.A., ponies, a petting zoo, carnival games, a straw maze, face painting, and food stands. It will evoke all your childhood memories of the season and best of all there’s no admission charge, there’s free parking and the hundreds of colorful gourds are reasonably priced. You can head there from Mondays to Thursdays from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

6. Live Oak Canyon Pumpkin Patch

Live Oak Canyon holds the title of the largest U-Pick it pumpkin patch in all of San Bernardino County. It also has some of the most beautiful displays we’ve seen, most notably the gorgeous, organic pumpkin house with the vegetables still attached to their vines. It’s open Monday to Thursday from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m., on Fridays from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. The final day for picking is on Halloween.

7. Descanso Gardens [SOLD OUT]

While you won’t be able to pick any pumpkins here, you will be able to weave through gourd-geous displays by volunteers. It’s a whole socially-distanced Halloween extravaganza, including a hay maze, a pumpkin house, pumpkin mandalas and bug sculptures. You’ll want to book your tickets soon though, as October weekends are completely sold out.
